This weekend sees the Festival of British model railways at the racecourse. The club will be hosting the event and marshaling it too. If any of you wish to talk to us just look out for the guys in the florescent jackets or find our stand where Graham and other members will answer any questions you may have.

Show fast approaching!!!

Hi to you all, the show is now fast approaching. Preparations are all finalised with the organisers. It promises to be a great show with layouts of all scales and demonstrations in every scale.

We are going to be there with our stall and everyone in high vis jackets are part of the club, so don't be afraid to ask us anything either about the show or the club.

Couplings?

I model British n gauge and have always disliked the standard couplings, so I have decided to use DG couplings from model signal engernering. They were a little tricky at first but after about 20 or so I got the hang of making them.

I fitted them to a loco and some of my wagons and installed electromagnets on my layout Halflat and hey presto we have got hands free uncoupling which is fantastic.

Well I shall have to post some photos txt is getting a little boring now.

Well I guess it's time to do the rest of my stock especially my new class 03 shunted from Graham Farish, what a smart model it is too.

Well the nights are drawing in and it is that time of year our hobby gets a lot of our attention and all the exhibitions are well and truly underway. This is no exception for the club and its members.

We have already started to help with the setup of the Exhibition which is in February at the racecourse again. The club and its members have started on a project converting a layout from stabling yard to a busy terminus, which will be complete for next year to show at the sheffield show in October.

I have been busy over the last few months constructing my boards and laying the track for my next layout. (more details will be posted)

Another member has had his layout invited to Derby next year, and some of the members are helping him get it ready in time.

Well If you find yourself with some spare time and want to come down and help feel free to do so. We still meet on a Tuesday evening from 7pm till around 9.30pm (even later some times).

Please either call John Medley our club secretary or email myself either for further details or to arrange to come and join us one evening.

Hi to all, the club will be exhibiting two layouts at the Sheffield show in Darnal on the 9th of October. One being my "N" gauge layout based on a busy junction between two main lines in West Yorkshire, resulting in a lot of freight traffic and passenger services. The other layout is an "O" gauge layout based on the North East around 1956. Do come down and have a look and if you are interested in joining the club please speak to myself or any club member.

Whats going on.

Well what a few months, a lot has happened within the club. We have a tram layout being built, we have a layout being upgraded to DCC which has its challenges as myself and Chris are doing which is a challenge due to fact that we have never done this before, but the expertise in the club is getting us through it.

John's 0 gauge layout is coming on nicely with all the track ballasted and point rodding half complete, We have Keith and Graham building a Tram layout, boards have been constructed and track laid, now starts the scenery.

well this was a quick update but look out for some photos coming soon of all these projects.

August Update 1

Hi to you all, as you see down the side I have placed photos of our new club room which was talked about earlier this month. We have now just been in a month and have now settled in. There are a number of layouts up and being worked on, Also this week we have put a O,OO and N scale test track boards on the wall to test and run in locos. More photos will be added next month and progress of a few of the layouts will be also on here to show you all what is going on at the club.

All Moved In

We have now moved all the belongings of the club into the new premises. We are going to be putting a test track up at the next meeting on Tuesday, so we are able to run locos in and test kit built ones and so on. We are currently putting a work bench in with a number of tools and machinery avaliable for all to use. Photos of the new premises will be posted sortly.

New and Longstanding Premises

After a long search we have finally found new and long lasting premises. Thankyou to all members for their efforts in the search. We are situated in Bently just off the high street near town, so an ideal central location. Now we have new premises we are again in the best possible situation to welcome new and existing members back to the club, to enjoy and learn new tricks to the hobby with a vast knowledge within the club. If coming from town take A19 to turn right down a dirt road that is between terrace houses which is still Haslemere Road, drive down and on your left will be a gate drive in and we are the first building on your left as you enter is our club room. We will still have our weekly meeting on Tuesday evenings at 7pm till 9.30pm. Hope to see you soon.

New Meeting Place

We have now moved out of the club room and put everything in storage. If you still are interested in joining us we are still going to hold our weekly meetings give John a call or email myself and we will let you know where we are meeting. Next Tuesday 23rd we are meeting at the Stochyard pub next to B&Q at Lakeside, where we will be discussing new premisis and any other issues.

May Update

As you can see the site has not been updated for a while, but that does not mean to say that things are not going on and at a pace. This weekend we are showing one of the members layouts at Derby, more on this next week, with photos and a detail description.

Previous posts were about the 009 layout (which still has no name) which is now coming along very well. All the electrics are now in place and a test run is schedualed for tuesday with some of the old rolling stock of the previous layout. This is one area to look out for more as photos of the progress will be posted very soon.

Three of the newer members, Ian, Steve and Dougles have decided to take on the challenge of upgrading an old layout. They have started to alter the track and getting ready to wire the layout for DCC and anolog control. More on this at a later date.

This was a quick update just to let you all know whats going on, more to come.

009 Layout progress

On Tuesday 18th of March, we wired some more of the layout up. We wired two feeds from one of the control pannels so now trains can move but there is lots more to be done if the layout is going to run smoothly. The next phase of the layout construction will include, more wiring (of course) and the start of the construction of the raised road, which Chris will be leading as I crack on with the wiring. Look out in the next few weeks as I will post some photos of the progress made.

009 Layout progress

Two weeks ago, we wired part of the control panel. We used tick wires which in the end were not as flexible as we needed them to be for opening and closing the control panel. These were replaced by on Tuesday by thinner wire which was easier to handle and still gives us the amount of power needed to go through to operate the layout.

New Club Layout

On Tuesday the 3rd of March, the club had a meeting to discuss a new focus and direction for the club. We have had 3 new members join our club in the last month and now, the decision has been taken to start with a club layout with the scale being oo, as most of the club members model in this scale. There were loads of ideas thrown around, one being of a preserved line, where a variety of stock could be run, enabling all members to do so. No plans have been set in place, but if you are interested in learning the tricks of the trade then this is the perfect time to join us and get involved. Look out for other posts detailing the progress of this project.

009 Layout progress

Our club is in the process of constructing a 009 layout, based around an industrial town with a village on a hill side. The layout has a mainline for passing passenger trains, a canal basin, which is going to have a warehouse built near, a goods yard and an engiene shed. We have tried to include varied operational on the layout and we think we have achieved this. The layout is U shapped and measures 8ft long and 2ft wide with 2 curved ends adding another 4ft by 2ft. The baseboards have been constructed from recycled baseboards from old layout andnow the track is now laid. (what a task putting those little brass screws on the joints to stop the rails from expanding and getting damaged in transit) We were lucky that we didn't have to construct new control pannels, all what we had to do was to put a new front pannel on and draw the track diagram. We then drilled holes into the pannel and fixed in place all the switches in there rightful place on the diagram.

After that we have started the task of wiring up the control pannel, which will all be colur coded so it makes it easire to find a problem if one arises. Well that is how far we have got so keep looking out for updates.

Coming Home

Many of you will know that for the past few years the Festival of British Railway Modelling has been at Harrogate's Yorkshire Show Ground. While we attended the event this year we had confirmation that the show will be back home in Doncaster next year. It will be held at the racecourse on the 13 & 14 February 2010. We look forward to being back home.
